Arlo loves his books. Since we have so many, I thought it might be fun to photograph some of his favourites in a new blog feature We Like To Read. It might be a book you haven’t seen before or one you were thinking of buying, I can let you have a wee peek inside.
Swedish born Ingela P Arrhenius is my all time favourite illustrator for children. I couldn’t resist her eye-catching Lion and Tiger posters when decorating Arlo’s nursery and he loves to play with her magnetic animals too. Knowing he is familiar with her playful characters I was delighted to find that she also has the cutest collection of books.
These simple, vividly coloured books are a delight for both Arlo and myself. The joy of these books are the bold, retro-style illustrations and the tactile felt flaps, perfect for tiny hands. Arlo easily recognises the animals and enjoys making his own sound effects to each. He is attracted to the soft fuzzy felt flaps that encourage him to explore and find whats underneath. The felt flaps are also robust and easy for Arlo to open himself unlike the more traditional card flaps that can be frustrating for a toddler. At the end of the books, he is always delighted to come face-to-face with himself in the mirror.
With so many lift-the-flap books available for toddlers these books really stand out among the rest. They are a beautiful keepsake and would be a lovely gift for anyone looking for a present for a 1 year old.
